The VX Auteur Theory

Are you a filmmaker who can produce, write, direct, shoot & edit? Or perhaps you have written the music for your film, and acted in it too?

If you have worked o­n at least three of the above roles then we want to hear from you. We are looking to showcase the next generation of D.I.Y auteurs for whom filmmaking is a more rounded, personal process as apposed to clear-cut, traditional film making roles.

Created by Lucia Helenka, a London based artist and filmmaker and supported by Vauxhall, the competition will showcase undiscovered, talented filmmakers with a strong personal vision and hands o­n approach to filmmaking. The competition reflects the well-known filmmakers Takeshi Kitano, Abbas Kiarostami, Mike Figgis, Emir Kusturica and Vincent Gallo who all work in a cross discipline approach and often make the most engaging films.

The VX Auteur Theory screenings, supported by Talent Circle, will be held at the Short Film Summer School (SFSS) at Curzon Soho o­n the 8th July, from 8:30 - 9:30pm.

Who can enter?

The competition is open to all filmmakers who have worked o­n at least three of the following roles to produce their submitted film: Producer, Writer, Director, Camera, Actor, Editor, and Music Composer.

What's in it for me?

The short listed films will be showcased at an event hosted by Vauxhall as part of the Short Film Summer School at Curzon Soho, 99 Shaftsbury Ave, London, W1D 5DY from 6 - 9th July 2005. Additionally, the winner will receive £1000 prize money towards their next filmmaking venture.

Rules:

• Filmmaker has to have worked o­n at least three of the following roles to produce their submitted film, including Producer, Writer, Director, Camera, Actor, Editor, and Music Composer
• The film can be any length under 10mins
• Films can be drama, documentary or the auteur's hybrid vision
• Film can have been shot o­n any format
• Film needs to be submitted o­n VHS or DVD with a completed application form (submitted tapes are non-returnable)
• Short listed films to be screened o­n Beta SP
