Producer in Residence - Simon Channing-Willliams
Saturday 23rd April 1:15pm Rio CinemaMulti-award winning producer Simon Channing-Williams is this year's Producer in Residence. A long time collaborator on Mike Leigh's films, Simon has credits including Life Is Sweet (1991), the acclaimed Secrets & Lies (1996), Topsy Turvey (1999) and the multi award-winning Vera Drake. In this masterclass, Simon will be discussing his career and role as a producer, and will be introducing two films from his repertoire: Naked (1993) and Man About Dog (2004)
Director in Residence - Danny Boyle
Sunday 24th April 2pm Genesis Mile EndRaindance East is delighted to welcome Danny Boyle as our Director in Residence. Born in Manchester, Danny is now an East End resident, and has been particularly vocal in recent years about his dedication to the area as a prime film location. In 1994 Danny directed his first feature, Shallow Grave. He followed this up with Trainspotting (1996), A Life Less Ordinary (1997), The Beach (2000) and 28 Days Later (2002). Danny will be interviewed at the festival by critic and festival patron Jason Solomons, following a screening of one of his films. Born Into Brothels
Thursday 28th April 7pm Rio CinemaIn this Oscar(TM)-winning documentary, directors Zana Briski and Ross Kauffman chronicle the amazing transformation of the children they come to know in Calcutta's red light district. Briski, a professional photographer, supplies them with cameras and encouragement and sets them off on a life-changing journey of learning and self-discovery that may just provide a way out of their squalid surroundings.
