Cornwall is blessed with some of the most stunning coastline and countryside to be found anywhere in the UK. Dotted around this spectacular natural landscape are some of the most picturesque villages. Invariably nestled around charming working fishing harbours or a huddle of cottages in a moorland these are what makes Cornwall a special place to stay.
Whether it is a good thing for local communities or not the self catering Cornwall holiday cottages has become a major part of the tourist economy. In towns and villages like Polperro, Looe, St Ives and Fowey holiday cottage rentals are probably the most popular option for visitors. With hundred of Cornwall cottages on offer and holiday homes as popular as they are holidays are affordable too.
Certain resorts have become synonymous with holiday cottages. In North Cornwall there are Bude, Polzeath, Port Isaac, Boscastle, Tintagel and Padstow. Each has its own character and appeal – Padstow with its Rick Stein propelled culinary reputation, Polzeath, the posh surf resort and Port Isaac, location of TV series Doc martin, with its higgledy-piggledy jumble of whitewashed cottages around the harbour.
West Cornwall holiday lettings are centred around the towns of Penzance and St Ives and the villages of Newlyn and Mousehole. There is also a fair range of traditional Cornish cottage accommodation on the dramatic Atlantic coast around Sennen and St Just.
Further along the north coast are beach towns like Porth Towan, Perranporth, Portreath, Hayle and, how could I not mention, Newquay. Holiday apartments abound with tourists lured by the great beaches and quality of surf.
The other pockets of holiday cottages in Cornwall are along the south coast east of Falmouth. Fishing villages such as Polperro, Looe, Mevagissey and the harbour town of Fowey are all on this stretch of coast including St Austell Bay.
Whether you are looking for a short break, Christmas or New Year get away or a dog friendly cottage with WiFi, open fire and swimming pool(!) you’ll find it in Cornwall
