Bournemouth Media School and the Arts Institute at Bournemouth combine to create the new Bournemouth Screen AcademyIn a new and far reaching collaboration, Bournemouth University's Media School and the Arts Institute at Bournemouth have combined to create one of the UK's high prestige Screen Academies selected by Skillset. This is a new venture for the Media School and Arts Institute and sets up one of only seven Screen Academies in the UK - three in London, one in Beaconsfield (NFTS) and one each in Scotland and Wales. The BSA has an opening budget of £1m, and will be creating a range of projects and events including new courses, summer schools, work placements, masterclasses, bursaries, online resources and a talent scouting programme to help develop the UK film industry. The Academy website will be live in February 2006 and the official launch will take place mid March 2006. As an opening project, the Academy will be supporting a mentoring programme for students and staff, to be conducted by mentors drawn from the South West region. The Academy is looking to appoint five media professionals from the South West region with the skills, aptitude and experience to be effective mentors (eg screen writers, directors, sound/music designers, animators, producers etc). The mentoring project will begin immediately and will run until spring 2006 - anyone interested in being a mentor or wishing to discuss the scheme should contact David Hanson, Director of the Bournemouth Screen Academy. |
