Young people working on the set of "The Freak"

Out of the 350 titles submitted for this year’s festival, “The Freak” (supported by the Lottery through the UK Film Council’s First Light initiative & Creative Partnerships Cornwall) made by students at Cape Cornwall school and mentored by Denzil Monk, Barbara Santi with classy music by Ruth Wall has been selected for the Official Competition of the worldwide young filmmaker’s Kids For Kids Festival 2005, taking place in the beautiful city of Naples, Italy from 30 June – 3 July 2005.

This recognition follows closely on the heels of “An Mor Daskorr” – a dance film made by pupils from Mounts Bay School for Golowan - being picked up by scouts from the International Festival of Cinema and Technology at Brief Encounters for their world touring programme.

This year the Awen team are working with a group of young people from Nancherrow Centre, St. Just Cornwall to make a short documentary with Barbara Santi during the summer holiday. “Surf Spiritual”, supported by the Lottery through the UK Film Council’s First Light initiative, Lord & Lady of Wessex Trust fund and Awen Productions, will explore the theme of the sea and spirituality.
