John started diving back in 1971 when he was 17 and started film making in
1990. Since then he has produced 18 underwater documentary films that have
sold to television stations worldwide. John was named UK Underwater Videographer
of the Year in 2001 by DIVE magazine.
Fionn was already going on Shark Bay filming trips while at school and became
full time immediately on leaving college. He is now editor and co-cameraman.
Their "critters" trilogy filmed during thousands of hours diving
in Indonesia's Lembeh Strait has won international awards worldwide including
the unprecedented accolade of a double Palme d'Or at the Antibes festival.
Releases in 2003 were "e-mail from a shark" revealing some of the
secrets of the ocean's second biggest fish the basking shark; and "Undersea
Homes" which is an insight into how and where sea creatures live. Produced
from footage shot around the world the film contains stunning behavioural
footage from the smallest macro subject to giant whale shark.
Latest releases in January 2005 are two hour long documentaries for television.
"Ocean Weirdos" is a collaboration with BBC newsman John
McIntyre and showcases some of the planet's strangest ocean creatures - including
unique deep sea footage. "Jungle Blue" is a classic documentary
style film about the exploration of a blue hole deep in the jungle in Papua
New Guinea, and the discovery of a deep cave system. Current projects include
a Cornish based underwater film and production of a DVD about the underwater
world of Papua New Guinea. Over the past five years Shark Bay Films have won
over 50 International awards for their films.
Shark Bay's corporate client base includes various National Tourist Boards
and airlines, resorts and live-aboard dive boats. John's articles have been
widely published and his first book "A step by step guide to underwater
video" is now on sale.
Shark Bay Films has an extensive underwater stock footage library with hundreds
of hours of footage compiled during 15 years of filming throughout the oceans
of the world. John is a trustee of The Shark Trust, international co-ordinator
of the Seychelles Underwater Film Festival SUBIOS, and a regular guest presenter
at film festivals worldwide.
The studio in West Cornwall UK is fully equipped with state of the art Avid
editing suite and can be hired with or without an editor. We have an extensive
inventory of underwater and surface filming and lighting equipment capable
of taking on a vast range of projects.
