Since 1982 Channel 4 has been making television that matters, offering an alternative to the mainstream o­n other channels and placing a premium o­n innovation, originality and diversity. Owned by the public and funded entirely by commercial activity, it re-invests all its profits in generating new creative opportunities for Britain's most talented producers and film makers.

Working at Channel 4

Alongside the Channel 4 brand and its audiences, our most valuable asset remains our staff. In preparation for the push into exciting new media markets, the Channel seek to employ staff with a range of new expertise together with the intellectual and imaginative capital contained within our existing skills base. In achieving this the Channel will be the most creative and stimulating place to work in British television. We also promote a learning culture, and as part of this employ a vast number of development mechanisms and opportunities for our staff.

  • Coaching and mentoring schemes
  • 'Step4Ward' - a development programme designed for our Assistant population
  • A full complement of management development, job specific and IS training courses
  • A dedicated training and development team

Work Experience

Channel 4 offers a limited number of short-term work placements to people with a strong desire to work in the media.
Due to the large volume of applicants we receive, these positions are in high demand and successful candidates will need to demonstrate a keen desire to work at the Channel.

If you are interested in a career in production, please note that Channel 4 commissions almost all of its programmes from independent production companies and therefore we do not produce programmes in-house. You could contact the production companies directly who may be able to help you with a work placement. Please do not apply here for production related work experience.
