Henry Darke was born in London and brought up in Cornwall. He went to school in Newquay and finished his degree in Film and Television Studies at the Univeristy of Aberystwyth in June 2003. His graduation film A Season in Hell was shortlisted for a Royal Television Society award. A season in Hell is about the chaos of working in a busy restaurant in Cornwall in the summer set against the backdrop of Tourism.

A season in Hell is about the chaos of working in a busy restaurant in Cornwall in the summer set against the backdrop of Tourism. After graduating Henry made two more short films. Danger My Ally was adapted from a play performed at the RSC and used actors that were in the stage version. Danger My Ally is about what happens to two eco-warriors when they are caught trying to blow up an open cast mine. Loose Cannons was made for the Rough cut 90-second film challenge and is a black and white split screen film about a boy who throws a rock at a stranger. In November 2004 Henry's first play Highfliers was performed at the Royal Court Theatre London as part of the Young Playwrights Season. Henry's experience of the black market building trade and the lack of affordable housing for people living in Cornwall informed the play. In June 2005 his second play Extreme Seafood was performed at The Hall for Cornwall as part of the 'opening lines' competition for new playwrights. Set in a kitchen and dealing with poor pay and the restaurant trade in Cornwall. In 2005 Henry made six short films, the last of which was A to B, funded by South West Screen and Cornwall film and written by Loic Rich. A love story about fare dodgers, set on a ferry. Henry started a filmmaking course at the London Film School in January 2006.
