Creative Kernow's role is to raise the profile of creativity in Cornwall, and in turn make Cornwall a better place to live, work and thrive. Creative Kernow has a staff team of five and as a company works closely with a wide range of local and regional partners and funders to promote business growth for the sector as well as championing the use of creativity in regeneration.

Creative Kernow's main activities include the following:

Sector Champion

Creative Kernow provides a voice and representation for the creative industries o­n local, regional and national forums and networks and also advocates directly to funders and decision makers o­n behalf of the creative industries sector.

Strategic Development

Most of our work focuses o­n strategic development for the sector including activities to increase the size, scope and competitiveness of the Creative Industries in Cornwall. This work is driven by Cornwall's three year Creative Industries plan, developed by the Cultural Industries Task Force. The Task Force provides Creative Kernow with an excellent mechanism to liaise and consult with a much broader grouping of professionals from the Creative Industries. For these reasons Creative Kernow provides a secretarial function to support the o­ngoing work of the task force.

Strategic Project Development

Whilst Creative Kernow does not distribute funding it can commit staff time and resources to support others to develop important and exciting projects. At times the company may also develop and lead o­n new initiatives.

Brokering and Supporting Partnerships

We recognize that as a small company with major strategic goals we must work with, grow and support partnerships that will provide direct benefit to creative businesses. We will work with new and existing partnerships both within and outside the sector.

Dedicated business support

As the Creative Industries sector is large and diverse Creative Kernow will focus its activity o­n a yearly basis. During 2004 and 2005 this focus will be o­n Media and Craft businesses. In effect this means that Creative Kernow has two specialist members of staff who can offer hands o­n business development for those with an ambition to grow their own work or business locally, nationally and internationally.

Signposting and Information Service

Creative Kernow is committed to commissioning research work and producing advocacy material which demonstrates the economic, social and cultural value of the sector.
