KYSPA
Kernow Youth Society for the Performing Arts

Performing as one

KYSPA is a youth-led organisation based in Penryn.  The society offers young people the chance to explore the performing arts both as artists and project leaders.

Members are encouraged and helped to take on a full variety of roles and responsibilities to take the society’s projects through the stages of planning & rehearsal to completion.  Members are encouraged to review projects and to apply lessons learned next time.

Activities

KYSPA will have a bias towards digital film projects, with members experimenting in different genre and film techniques.  KYSPA hopes to contribute films to the Young People’s Film Festival in 2007 & will hold regular “premieres” of members’ work.

In addition to film, KYSPA will offer members the chance to work on collaborative performances in drama, music and dance as dictated by members’ wishes & the need for fundraising events.

Funds permitting there will be periodic “workshop” activities with arts professionals and specialists.

The society will be developing a website featuring details of current and forthcoming projects, footage filmed by members and regular updates on the society’s activities.

Competitions & Awards

KYSPA will offer members the chance to enter the full range of competitions organised by the Citizenship Foundation on a rolling entry programme (one competition per year) offering members a broad range of experiences over time.

KYSPA also intends to offer the Young People’s Arts Awards to members either exclusively through KYSPA activities or in partnership with other local providers.

  • YPAA Silver is an accredited award of GCSE standard.
  • YPAA Gold carries UCAS points.

Meetings & Age Banding

KYSPA meetings will normally be held at St Gluvias Church Hall on a Wednesday evening.  To accommodate the maximum number of members, there will be two sessions for younger and older members respectively.

  • Age 9 - 11 years (primary) Wednesday 6pm - 7.30pm
  • Age 11 - 18 years (secondary) Wednesday 7.30pm - 9pm

Performing as one - the KYSPA ethos.

KYSPA’s motto “performing as one” reflects the overall aim that the society has; to draw young people together and allow them to create ideas and bring them to life as a team.  We hope to draw in members from a variety of communities allowing new friendships to form and confidence and communication to develop between these groups.  Wherever members are from, we aim to create a single, united and supportive identity within the society.

The society will aim to regularly bring together the junior and senior sections in cooperative activities.

Organisation - Members at the helm

KYSPA will elect a council of members to oversee the day to day activities of the society ensuring that the society offers the opportunities and activities that the membership wants.   The council will be elected by an open, secret ballot on an annual basis.  The council will comprise of a balanced number of junior and senior members. All members will have a voice within the society and will help shape the organisation as it establishes and grows.

Organisation - Leaders

KYSPA is a committee-led community project.  The committee members are responsible for overseeing the legal and financial aspects of the society.  In time, KYSPA will probably move towards becoming a registered charity.  KYSPA has a child protection policy in place which members and parents can request to see.

In addition to the committee, KYSPA’s activities will be run by a team of adult leaders and youth leaders.  Anyone interested in getting involved in this rewarding pastime should, in the first instance, contact KYSPA via the contact details below.
