Cornwall Film wants a Factual Programming Mentor

Cornwall Film is looking for a Mentor to work with the Researchers selected for the researchers scheme.

All project activity will take place in Cornwall.

Mentor Researcher Scheme.

Up to four factual programming Researcher posts in Cornwall-based production companies will be part funded by Cornwall Film from February 2006 via the researchers scheme.. The scheme aims to develop local talent and to generate a greater number of successful commissions for the companies involved – an opportunity to avoid ‘feast and famine’ production conditions.

Companies hosting a Researcher post will need to demonstrate a commitment to developing new talent and Cornwall’s media industry, the support and expertise required to develop the Researcher’s skills and ideas, and accessible office facilities. Companies will bring experience in the development and production of factual programming, strong links to commissioners and a viable company business plan. The Researcher posts will be supported by training and specialist mentoring.

The Mentor will act as guide and coach to the Researchers selected for the Researchers Scheme. The Mentor will host individual bimonthly mentoring sessions with individual Researchers. The Mentor will also attend quarterly meetings with Cornwall Film in order to report on the Researchers’ progress against targets set in the Researcher’s Project Plan.

The Mentor will need to demonstrate experience of working in a range of factual programming genres and an understanding of the specific needs of the local media industry. He or she will have a strong up to date knowledge of the marketplace and contacts with commissioners and broadcasters. The Mentor will demonstrate experience of successfully mentoring and developing new and experienced talent; and of progressing ideas from treatment to taster tape resulting in broadcast commissions.

It is anticipated that if four researchers are selected for the scheme, the role of Mentor will require approximately 50 hours work over a 12 month period:

  • 6 quarterly 1.5 hour bi-monthly mentoring sessions (inc. prep) x 4 = 36 hours
  • 1 quarterly 2 hour meeting with Cornwall Film (inc. prep) = 10 hours.

Cornwall Film is able to pay a total fee of £1000 for the services of the mentor.

If you are interested in applying to work as a Mentor on the RESEARCHER SCHEME, please email your CV and a covering letter to Kathy Perkin at kathy.perkin@cornwallfilm.com by 13 January 2006.

More information on the scheme can be found under ‘news’ at www.cornwallfilm.com
