Artist Residency opportunity at the Plymouth Peninsula Radiology Academy

Zest is seeking to appoint an artist in residence to produce artwork for the new Peninsula Radiology Academy (PRA), Plymouth.

PRA is o­ne of 3 pilot radiology academy sites developed by the Department of Health in the UK (the other two being in Norwich and Leeds).  It is a purpose built, state-of-the-art educational environment for radiology trainees and a general meeting and conferencing facility for other healthcare professionals. It contains a full complement of modern multimedia facilities, clinical simulations, library resources, and areas for peer-group work.

Zest: arts for health is delivering a cutting edge arts programme for Plymouth Area Health Community.  Zest is managed by a professional arts team with extensive knowledge of collaborative interdisciplinary work. 

The residency will involve a period of research getting to know and understand the context. This will include a programme of talks, displays and workshops, which will form part of the residency. 

What are we looking for?

  • Artists working with digital media and 2-dimensional processes
  • Artworks informed by radiology that can be displayed in relevant parts of PRA and other healthcare settings
  • To start the project ASAP with some outcomes for display in early February 2006

What is offered?

  • Artists fee: £3000
  • A production budget in the region of £3000
  • Studio/workspace within PRA subject to availability
  • Access to expert Radiologists and cutting edge technology
  • Support and co-ordination from Zest
  • Marketing and publicity

What experience/knowledge are we looking for? 

  • Track record of delivering quality projects within budget
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Understanding of issues of working within medical environments  e.g. patient confidentiality etc
  • Experience of working with people from different backgrounds in workshop situations
