Baring Foundation
The Baring will support work which will lead to a significant and lasting change in the effectiveness of an organisation by improvements to its strategy, structure, systems or skills.
You could apply to improve your own organisational effectiveness by:
- the introduction of organisational strategy and business planning or fundamental reviews of existing strategies and plans
- a new, more effective organisational or management structure
- introducing co-ordination and collaboration between organisations
- formal combined working or mergers
- improvements to essential systems such as information technology, finance, personnel and training
- the introduction of appropriate ways of assessing and improving the overall quality and effectiveness of an organisation
- introducing new skills or knowledge to organisations
- supporting the dissemination or replication of effective practice
- involving users or beneficiaries in planning and management for the first time or in a significantly better way
- making organisations more responsive to the needs of their users or potential users
- umbrella organisations can apply to administer a block grant that is used to enable exchanges of knowledge and skills between its members
This programme will not fund:
- continuing running costs of an organisation, including salaries of permanent current or new staff
cost of existing or increased services - work already completed or currently taking place or due to start while the application is being considered
- repeat of an activity that took place in a previous year
- routine staff training
The Foundation is prepared to consider applications for grants for up to £30,000 for work spanning up to two years. However, the great majority of grants will be for much less; the Foundation’s average grant is £7,900 and only 20% of grants are for more than £10,000. The Foundation is willing to fund a piece of work in its entirety or with a number of other funders.

Application Procedure
This grants programme has no deadlines; applications can be sent to the Foundation at any time. The Foundation's staff or advisers may need to telephone or visit the applicant organisation during the assessment process. Applications will be dealt with as quickly as possible but please bear in mind it could take up to 6 months.
