The Plymouth Mouth

The Plymouth Mouth website

Wholesale rebuilding and development plans are now in place in Plymouth. As part of this a total rebuild has been planned for six city primary schools in addition to major changes in the community at large. This is a unique opportunity to chart the regeneration process in the City through the eyes of the young people and communities involved.

Coleridge Productions are building The Mouth, an interactive living history website, alongside young people in Plymouth schools. We have begun with three primary schools and three secondary schools and intend to cascade beyond that to other schools and youth groups in due course. The project will enable students to converse with professional agencies such as the city council, museum, arts centre, the RDA and an array of creative / media practitioners.

The schools so far involved include Hele’s School Sixth Form, Lipson Community College, Coombe Dean School, Montpelier Junior and Infants, Plym View Primary and West Park Primary.

The young people are encouraged and supported in this collaborative process using Coleridge expertise along with Creative Partnerships and other creative practitioners. This is in line with the CP aim to develop sustainable partnerships between young people, teachers, schools, individuals and organisations in the creative, cultural and business sector. Through these partnerships schools and creative organisations explore and develop innovative new ways of working together, addressing specific improvement issues, creative learning, raising aspirations and skills development. Together these contribute to the building of a Creative Plymouth, the Council’s vision of a leading European twenty first century city.
