The London Film School is an intimate international community of filmmakers, in total less than 150 staff and students. Our mission is to build up a culture: a studio/conservatoire dedicated to craft excellence, creative freedom and the challenges and discoveries that come from real collaboration and hard work. It's a film school for the real world, based o­n filmmaking. It’s not a product. It’s a real place.

LFS offers o­ne core course, the 2 year MA Filmmaking programme. A new course begins every four months, so that we can maximise the use of our resources and make a great deal of work at a highly professional level.

The LFS MA Filmmaking Course is an intense two year programme in which the full range of film-making skills are taught at appropriate professional levels.

Learning is based around short films. Each term these film exercises become more technically sophisticated, more considered and more complex in their ambitions. The School specifies the skill base for each exercise, provides the equipment and trains the students up to the new levels in each of the various craft skills. The students solve problems similar to those faced by professional units, o­n a steeply increasing slope of difficulty. Their work is constantly assessed and criticised. Students themselves are required to reflect o­n and assess their own learning in Work and Research Journals.

MA Screenwriting

From September 2005, the London Film School is offering a unique screenwriting course within the context of a filmmaking community. The emphasis will be o­n developing the writer's original voice through small group and o­ne-to-one mentoring from industry professionals. The main written work is the development of a feature screenplay.

The course is built o­n the idea that each student should have a working relationship to a mentor screenwriter throughout. The school is particularly keen to recruit students who have been writing in other areas, and who would like to address screenwriting as a specialization; writers who have written for theatre, in fiction, or journalism.
