booklet with subsequent access to a website containing lots of film sound resources and articles.

PD150 sound is pleased to announce a o­ne-day intensive training course focusing o­n getting the best sound o­n a DV shoot. It is intended as both an introduction to sound as a medium and to the practical aspects of being a location sound recordist over the day we will cover sound production practice, with a broad  theoretical base, focusing o­n the 'single system' of recording   direct to camera.  

Course Overview 

  • Introduction to basic sound physics and engineering, wave mechanics, engineering standards, connectors, line-up tones, balanced cables, and workflow routes.
  • Microphone types and usage, phantom power, and directional patterns
  • Using portable mixers 
  • Digital audio: sampling, formats, and post-production issues  
  • Rigging & operating sound o­n the Sony PD150 (can also cover the Canon  XL1 and DSR300 o­n request)  
  • Using Clip Mics
  • Operating Boom mics 
  • Using Radio Mics 
  • Techniques for eliminating or minimising unwanted and intrusive noise 
  • Handheld Interview microphone technique.
