Antoine and his wife Helene are two of millions in cars heading south for the summer holidays, but Antoine doesn't want to be one of the herd. His decision to take a "short cut", followed by a few bar stops, prompts his wife to abandon him. She deserts him to take a train and he drives on, getting increasingly drunk. Antoine then picks up a surly hitcher, the escaped fugitive mentioned on the radio, which leads to a horrible accident and a frantic search for the suddenly missing Hélène.Red Lights is an absorbing, suspenseful and sophisticated thriller from Cédric Kahn, adapted from a Georges Simenon novel. It is a road movie with a difference, full of tension and scares but with an intellectual take on what it is to be “content”. |
