The Cornwall Film Festival is please to launch the Govynn Kernewek Award with a treatment writing workshop and an Evening of Cornish Language Films.

One Day Treatment Writing Workshop

In association with North Cornwall District Council, Cornwall Film Festival will be holding a 1 day workshop at Bodmin Community College o­n “Writing a Professional Treatment for Short Film”.  Hosted by Beatrix Milburn the workshop will:

  • Explore the scope of short film
  • Analyse what’s sharp and inspiring, what’s deadly and dull
  • Explore characters and subject matter ripe for short film content
  • Explore characters and subject matter ripe for short film content
  • Explore the dynamics between imagery, narrative, style and structure
  • Play with the approaches to the film: from classic to radical, horror to thrills
  • Develop your special point of view as a film maker

This workshop is not just aimed at people wishing to make films in the Cornish language. Prior experience of treatment writing is required.

Evening Screening

In association with Awen Productions CIC, we will present an evening of Cornish language and culture films.  This will include the Kowethas an Yeth Kernewek’s premiere of ‘Konin ha Pryv’ – an animation for pre-school children, and ‘The Day of the Beast’ – a colourful record of Bodmin Racing Celebrations 2005.  The evening will also include a Q & A about The Govynn Kernewek Award and the opportunity to meet film makers who have made films in the Cornish language and to discuss and share ideas.

Tickets for the evening screening are £3 and are available in advance from the festival office, or o­n the door

Govynn Kernewek 2006

A production award of £5000, supported by Cornwall Film, for a short film to be made in Cornish with the title ‘An Jowl yn Agas Kegin’ (‘The Devil in your Kitchen’).  Applicants should submit a 1 page treatment of their idea together with their CV to the festival office before 10 October 2006.  Short listed applicants will be invited to an interview and the winner will be announced at the Cornwall Film Festival (16 – 19 November 2006) prior to the premier of ‘Tap Tap Tap’ winner of the Govynn Kernewek 2005.
