4th April at Bar 200 8pm & 10pm

Hot on the heels of their recent programme of award-winning Future Shorts films at the Acorn in Penzance, Truro-based film and theatre production company o-region have turned their attention back to the world of local filmmaking with the return of roughcut, their very own short film exhibition project, and an all-new film challenge for 2006.

Following on from the huge success of the two film competitions of previous years – the 90 Second Film Challenge in 2004 and the Two Minutes Silence Film Challenge in 2005 – the latest film competition is snappily titled the one Take Wonder Film Challenge. Entrants are being asked to submit films of any style or subject - the only rule is that they must be made in one single continuous take, with no cuts or editing of any kind.

"We don't mind if you make the films on your mobile phone, on your home camcorder or with a full Steadicam rig," explains Oliver Berry, associate director of o-region. "Just as long as it's all done in one take. The whole idea is to stimulate the imaginations of local filmmakers and inspire them to get out and make new short films. That's really what our competitions are all about - and judging by the success of previous years, and the huge interest we've already had in the competition, this year looks set to be bigger than ever."

The best films from previous years' competitions have even received acclaim from such cinematic luminaries as British director Mike Leigh, who saw a selection of the 90 Second Film Challenge films at the 2004 Cornwall Film Festival, and quipped "If this is what Cornish cinema is all about, then let's have more of it". Two special competition screenings will be held at the beginning of June at Bar 200 in Truro, and the best entries are again being put forward for selection for this year's Cornwall Film Festival and the Brief Encounters short film festival in Bristol. The closing date for entries to the one Take Wonder Film Challenge is May 1st and the entry fee is £5 – application forms can be downloaded from the o-region website at www.o-region.co.uk.
