Innocence is based upon a short story by the German playwright Frank Wedekind. It is set in a mysterious boarding school for girls, which exists away from the rest of the world in the middle of a remote forest. Shadowy, gothic and creepy, the school has few pupils, even fewer teachers, and abundant lessons in dance. The girls seem happy, yet are completely separated from their families and are forbidden from attempting to leave the grounds.
“If the idea of seeing a film unlike anything else on offer this year is your bag, then innocence is most certainly for you. Angela Carter meets Enid Blyton” Independent on Sunday |
